ClassDojo is a program designed for teachers that helps with classroom management. This program allows teachers to manage students, activities, parental involvement and to track behavior. Students can easily refer to the program for help with assignments and to hand in work when they are finished.

Main Features

Managing a classroom can be tough and monotonous. ClassDojo is an interactive program that allows you to create avatars for your children that all look like funny monsters. This is fun both for you and the students. It also allows you to track each student individually. For example, you can easily select any student and see if they've handed in activities, how they are doing and how their behavior has been throughout the school year.

Children can do the same. They are given access to the program. This allows them to see which assignments are due, how they are doing so far and they can either communicate with you or get extra instructions from the program.

This program also allows parents to check on how their child is doing. They can communicate with teachers to ask questions or to get more information about their child.

Behavior Points

ClassDojo has a behavior component that allows teachers to give and take points as needed. Adjusting behavior is very important for teachers as children can act out if they are not given proper guidance. This allows teachers to replicate that through a digital platform.

At the same time, there is a chance that this can be used punitively and as public embarrassment if the teacher isn't careful. If the settings aren't made private, then other children can see why a student has low points for behavior. This might create problems for that student and it is likely the parent will get involved. This can be corrected by just properly setting the options.

Activities

Thinking of activities for children can be tough. This is especially true if you are a newer teacher or your other activities aren't working for this particular class. ClassDojo comes with many activities that are fun and exciting for children while still teaching vital concepts. This can include reasoning, spelling, shapes, math and much more.

Not only that, but children can hand in their assignments through the program. This makes it easier for you to grade them. It also makes it easier to see who did or didn't hand in the assignment.

Younger Children

While some young adolescents might appreciate the design, this program is really meant for younger students in general. While some components might be handy with older students, such as being able to track each student individually and handing in assignments online, the activities and design won't appeal to them.

Pros

  • Makes it easy to individually track each student's progress.
  • Comes with many activities that young students will enjoy.
  • Allows teachers, students and parents to easily communicate.

Cons

  • This program is only intended for younger students.
